How much would top 3 be making compared to other sports? Seems like most of these pros can afford to train and compete full time with no "other" jobs, compared to 10-15 years ago. With contest money, sponsorships etc. would they be making 50-100K?? Top BMX and skateboarders probably make 10x what these guys make with sponsorships, I would guess.
Sweet track.... All I kept thinking was.... how long is that blue ribbon down both sides of the course??? haha.
I know these events would be VERY difficult to judge as there is so much ground between the start and finish and I believe they are not watching screens, BUT...... I would say Bizet's run was the winning run. Again, it's easy to say from watching top to bottom video of one rider then the other. Just saying.
Hmm.. great idea guys and props for following a dream..... but
1. Video looks jumpy and I feel motion sick watching it. Too top heavy and can't keep it still enough. GoPro is probably much lighter and stable.
2. I haven't checked into your price point, but I'd rather spend the money on a GoPro or Contour.
Hope you find the market your looking for and find success. If you were doing this 2 years ago, you may have it made but following on the heals of the competition is tough. The action sports media has been flooded with helmet cam (POV) footage in the past year or so and the market seems established with either Contour or GoPro. It would be like trying to come out with an mp3 player to compete with iPod.... who would buy anything else?
Don't get me wrong, he is a solid rider but maybe I have just been spoiled by so many epic videos on Pinkbike that these just don't do it for me. As for professionalism, I completely agree that he does represent the sport and himself very well. I think that mtn biking in general has very well spoken athletes and not as many "tools" as some other mainstream sports. When I see interviews by guys like Atherton or Kinrade they come off intelligent and engaging (as does Ryan). I do however feel that making connections through his brother has certainly helped his career. Given 20 riders of the same calibre, a sponsor would take a "Berrecloth" any day over an unknown name.
I do appreciate Ryan's love of the two wheeled pleasure sled and his pursuit of having fun.... which is why we all ride.
Is it just me or is Ryan a pretty average rider? Not to be a hater, but how does he get sponsorship etc. I think the bulk of riders in Nelson are as good or better than him. I enjoy these vids but they are all kind of average to me ( I know I sound like Simon Cowell on Idol). I guess it doesn't hurt when your bro is one of the biggest names in the game.... anyhow, I'm just saying. I think Ryan did these "Stoke vids" to promote himself for his sponsors. Sorry Ryan.... but love Wade!
Wow... 6 riders from little old Nelson (Kootenays) ...... not bad for less than 10,000 people.
Quit all the hating. Dude is out riding and having a good time doing it... isn't that why we all ride?? Every VOD doesn't have to be pro riders with top editing. This riding is slick and conveys the essence of why we all ride... TO HAVE A GOOD TIME WITH OUR BUDS. Keep it up and well done on the nice little edit.
